As wind-analysts, we are often challenged by maps and geo-spatial data-sources that are inaccurate, possibly old and insufficient, thus not representing the actual in-situ conditions. Such maps and data may cause errors in our modelling efforts – and adding in a lot of manual work to circumvent these problems.
During the WindEurope 2018 event in Hamburg – EMD, the developer of the windPRO software -showed how the Innowind project bring modern-era satellite data into the wind-energy modelling chain – helping wind analysts to achieve a higher degree of accuracy and precision in their modeling. A part of the presentation showed the first Innowind fast-track products at work in windPRO: An updated and recent satellite-map in 10m resolution as well as a forest-height data source directly consumable in the ORA-forest model in windPRO 3.2.
